Greener IT for our clients, lower carbon for us.
Technology has a footprint, and so do the engineers driving out to fix it. Here is what Hanoto Technology is doing to shrink ours, and how we help our clients shrink theirs at the same time.
An honest look at our footprint.
For an IT company our size the biggest emissions buckets are predictable. Engineers driving to client sites across Sussex, Kent and Surrey. Electricity for the office and our small lab. The supply-chain footprint of every laptop, switch and access point we install. The data centres our clients' workloads run on.
We are working through each of these in turn with practical changes, rather than buying our way out of them with offsets.
Half our service fleet is now electric.
The vans and cars that take our engineers to client sites are 50% fully battery-electric. We are replacing the remaining ICE vehicles as their leases come up, with the goal of a fully electric fleet over the next few years.
For shorter local visits across Brighton, Lewes and Eastbourne, EVs cover the work easily on a single charge.
Solar power at our offices.
One of our offices has a rooftop solar array that powers the workspace and feeds surplus back to the grid on sunny days. It quietly cancels out a meaningful chunk of our day-to-day electricity demand.
It is a small but tangible step, and one we plan to extend across the rest of the business.
Greener IT, for you, not just us.
Right-sizing the cloud
Idle VMs and overprovisioned licences burn electricity for nothing. Our cloud services reviews trim spend and emissions in the same step.
Longer kit lifecycles
A laptop replaced every 3 years has a much higher footprint than one supported for 5. Our managed IT support includes proactive maintenance to keep machines productive for longer.
Responsible end-of-life
Old kit goes to certified WEEE recyclers, not skips. Drives are wiped to NCSC standards, and working machines get refurbished and donated wherever we can.
Energy-aware infrastructure
When we design network and server infrastructure we right-size for actual load. Less metal, less power, less heat.
Remote-first support
Most issues we resolve never need a van movement. Splashtop SOS sessions and proactive monitoring keep journeys, and the diesel that goes with them, to a minimum.
Measured, not guessed
We track our progress year on year and update this page as things change. No vague pledges, no greenwash.
Choosing partners who pull the same way.
Most of the carbon in any IT estate is embedded in the hardware before it ever turns on. We favour vendors with credible decarbonisation plans (Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, Ubiquiti) and we challenge any partner whose product roadmap quietly forces premature replacement of working kit.
We expect the same standards from ourselves. Read our modern slavery statement for how we vet labour conditions across that supply chain.

We do free 30-minute reviews where we point out the easy wins, lower power draw, less idle infrastructure, longer hardware life. No commitment.
